Since 2012, the Get Active Farm to School program has helped create or restore 40 school and community garden sites and five school greenhouses throughout all six Wood County public school districts. During the 2011-2012 school year, four high school greenhouses supplied salad greens to their district cafeterias. In addition, the Vesper Community Academy now has an 8,000 sq. ft. garden. Its harvests are used in the school lunch program, sold locally, donated to food pantries and used for fundraising efforts. To get involved with your child’s garden or greenhouse project, contact Wood County Health Department at firstname.lastname@example.org or 715.421.8911.
