Farm to School

Procurement of Local Foods and Taste Tests

In the beginning:  The County F2S staff chose the Harvest of the Month(HoM) line up, sourced the product, paid for and picked up the local product, prepped and served the local product to one elementary school in each of the 6 public school districts.  It took many staff members to accomplish this!

In the second year: Food Service Directors chose the HoM line up together at a joint meeting, Wood County Health Department (through the CPPW grant) paid for the product for the first use, schools paid for additional product they purchased after the initial taste tests, delivery to schools was by farmers who grew the food, the food service at each school prepped and served the product in the lunch lines.  County F2S staff coordinated orders and made arrangements with farmers.

In the third year:  Food Service Directors chose the HoM line up, schools paid for product, farmers delivered product, food service prepped and served product in lunch lines. County F2S staff coordinated orders and made arrangements with farmers.

In the fourth year: Food Service chose any local product they wanted each month, schools paid for product, farmers delivered product, food service prepped and served product in lunch line.  County F2S staff coordinated orders and made arrangements with some farmers.  Food Service starting to make own orders from local farmers directly.
