F2S History and Logistics

  • Joined the Wood County Farm to School program in 2011 by holding taste tests in Madison Elementary school cafeteria
  • District of 7 schools,  4017 students in 2014
  • National school lunch and breakfast programs in every school

Procurement

  • In the 2013/2014 school year, Marshfield district used 13,628 pounds of local foods in their school cafeterias ($11,924 purchased and $205 donated), including melons, apples, potatoes, shredded zucchini and shredded carrots for muffins, onions, sweetened dried cranberries,  shredded cabbage, locally produced hotdogs, butter, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrot coins.

  • Served locally made smoothies near vending cart for school sports event, 2013

  • Used CPPW grant money to purchase the following equipment for processing  and serving fresh healthy raw vegetables and fruits:  fruit and vegetable bar for each elementary school, salad bar for middle school and high school, mandolin vegetable slicer, two 14 cup robot coupe food processors, nutrition software, muffin pans, refrigerated vending machine for a la carte, freezer for summer school program to store garden produce

  • Purchase local apples for snack at Elementary schools' Walk to School day, 2012 to present.



Classroom education (elementary and secondary)

  • HS agriculture class helps elementary school gardens with planning and planting in spring 2014
  • Local food sourcing lesson and apple sauce taste test at Lincoln elementary 4thgrade - spring 2014
  • Hydroponic growing system was purchased with CPPW grant money in 2011. Horticulture class grows tomatoes, peas, cucumbers, and peppers for the class to prepare and eat.  Also grows lettuce in hanging baskets in greenhouse for the kids to make salads they can eat during the class period.  At the end of the year students take the full grown plants home to try to transplant them into their gardens.
  • Horticulture class built 16 raised bed gardens for three nearby daycare facilities and help them prepare garden beds each spring.  Grow seedlings in HS greenhouse for daycare gardens.
  • Purchased cooking carts for use in elementary classrooms.  One in each elementary school.

  • Orchard planted behind High School 2013.

Additional programs supporting Farm to School in Marshfield district\

  • Nutritious delicious 4th grade curriculum Lincoln and Washington elementary schools.
